Writing is Risky and Wonderful

This is my first post on my new blog! It’s been a long time coming for me. I actually created this site a year ago and am now ready to launch a new version of myself into the world. It’s exciting, risky and necessary.

Like many people, expressing myself through the written word is part of my DNA. My first diary – a Holly HobbieHolly Hobbie diary cover diary with a pink-and-white checkered cover and a lock (gasp!) recorded my crushes, achievements, parental rants, school fears and my life dreams. I was a little girl in grade school with a voracious appetite for the written word. I stayed up late at night reading my books and magazines, learning about life and far-away places through tales spun by authors I remember to this day (I read The Hobbit when I was 8, lol).

I have had a fruitful and satisfying career as a journalist, PR practitioner and strategist, media relations maven, government flak, marketer and writer. I’ve enjoyed helping clients become more visible and successful through the art of public relations.

In the last few years, I’ve felt a strong pull towards more creative writing and a desire to (finally) take a leap of faith and heed the call to return to my roots and write much different content and put it out into the Universe. That’s a scary and risky prospect for me.

I recently read Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and her concepts and encouragement to release our gifts to the world remind me that we just have this one life, this one joyride around the sun, and it’s up to ME to make the most of it.

I hope the stories I produce are of interest to others, and that readers will find a bit of themselves in them. I hope you enjoy my life is a joyride.I invite you to share your stories here and to connect with me on Twitter – I’m @bmyers

Thanks for reading!
